Client: Personal Project Date: 2024

With the NFL season quickly approaching, I decided to channel my excitement for football into a creative design project. If California has three NFL teams, why shouldn’t Nebraska have one? Enter the Nebraska Nighthawks—a concept NFL team based in Lincoln, Nebraska.

I selected the Nighthawk because it’s native to Nebraska and adds alliteration with the letter 'N.' For the color palette, I chose blue and orange, purposely avoiding the overuse of red, which is commonly associated with Nebraska. These colors offer a fresh, complementary look.

Logo Sketches:

Below are a few of my initial sketches. Once I chose my favorite initial sketch, I created a refined version to place into my computer. Once on my computer, I opened the sketch in Adobe Illustrator, and with the utilization of the pen tool, I vectorized my sketch into a working logo.

Typography:

Niveau Grotesk is the primary typeface I selected for my design. Its bold features and passionate nature reflect the competitive nature of NFL teams. In the final design, I added a couple extra triangles to the upper left corner of a few letters to personalize the type. Josefin Sans is the secondary typeface I selected for my design, and I chose it because of its sharp features which mimic the Nighthawks logo. I adjusted the tracking of the typeface to 500 to maintain the visual hierarchy and contrast between the two typefaces.

Final Design:

Below is what my logo and typography look like as a final design.
